BASIC RIGGING FOR ROPE RESCUE (16 Hours)

Prerequisite: None
Basic Rigging for Rope Rescue is a 16-hour course designed to teach rescuers how to access, package and evacuate the injured in vertical environments. Students will learn basic knots, rope rigging techniques, basket stretcher evacuations, including lowering and basic mechanical advantage raising systems. Patient consideration and handling will also be covered.

Instructors provide continuous instruction and guidance. Safety is stressed at all times, and is the emphasis of all course contents.

ROPE RESCUE OPERATIONS (24 hours)

Perquisite: None

This course is designed to provide you with the skill, knowledge and ability to perform rope rescue skills according to NFPA 1670 and 1006 standards for Rope Rescue Operations. The course skills include, hazard recognition, scene control and management, rescue rope, hardware, software, care and use, rescue knots, single point anchors, multi-point anchors, belay/safety systems, fixed brake lowering systems, rope based mechanical advantage systems, patient packaging and rescue litter systems, litter movement in the low angle and high angle environment.

ROPE RESCUE TECHNICAN (48 hours)

Prerequisite: Rope Rescue Operations

The Rope Rescue Technician course is an advanced course that will provide bring you to the level of Rope Rescue Technician and meet the requirements for NFPA 1670 and 1006 standards for Rope Rescue Technician. Advanced skill in; team management, rope rescue physics, load factors, critical angles, constructing multi-point anchor systems, descending (rappelling) and ascending a fixed rope, passing knots in systems, attending litter maneuvers, negotiating obstacles, introduction to artificial high directional anchors, constructing various offsets (guiding, deflections, two rope and high line rope systems will be explored and intensely practiced.

ARTIFICIAL HIGH DIRECTIONAL ANCHOR SYSTEMS (20 Hours)

Prerequisite: Rope Rescue Operations (or equivalent)

A program designed to explore the design, construction and use of various Artificial High Directional Anchor Systems, (Terradaptor, AZ Vortex, etc.) which can be deployed to assist with reducing over-the-edge trauma. Variations to the tripod, “A” Frame, Gin or Mono Pole set ups will be explored.

CONFINED SPACE RESCUE AWARENESS (3 Hours)

Prerequisite: None

Confined Space Rescue Awareness takes a look at the OSHA regulation for“Permit Required Confined Spaces – 1910.146” and “Emergency Rescue Services”. Entrant & Attendant duties, types of confined spaces, hazard recognition & control, atmospheric monitoring, PPE, rescue equipment and patient care considerations will all be discussed.

CONFINED SPACE RESCUE OPERATIONS (16 Hours)

Prerequisite: Rope Rescue Operations

Confined Space Rescue starts off with OSHA 1910.146 and NFPA 1670 requirements for Confined Space Rescue and covers, types of confined spaces, hazard recognition and control, atmospheric monitoring, personal protective equipment, rescue equipment and rigging techniques, attendant and entrant procedures, patient packaging, communications, SCBA/SAR management, confined space manipulation skills and post rescue considerations. Students will be trained to the Rescue Entrant and Rescue Attendant level. Non-entry and entry type rescues will be practiced, including limited access spaces.

CONFINED SPACE RESCUE TECHNICIAN (16 Hours)

Prerequisite: Confined Space Rescue Operations

This program is an advanced course for the confined space rescuer who wishes to obtain the Technician level skill requirements for NFPA 1670 & 1006. Upon completion of this course, students will gain the knowledge, skills and ability to preplan confined spaces for rescue, manage rescue operations, have the ability to control hazards, learn advanced rigging skills for confined space rescue and participate in various realistic scenarios for team building skills.

STRUCTURAL ROPE / CONFINED SPACE RESCUE (40 Hours)

Our most popular initial rope and confined space rescue course for industry. This Structural Rope/Confined Space Rescue course for industrial rescue teams, concentrates on rescue from elevated platforms and common confined space found in the industrial setting. This course combines both our Rope Rescue and Confined Space Rescue Operations courses into one course, specifically designed for industrial rescue teams. Realistic rescue problems will be presented and practiced for the Industrial environment.

LADDER RESCUE SYSTEMS (16 Hours)

Prerequisite: Basic Rigging for Rope Rescue or Rope Rescue Operations

This course involves basic ropes and rigging skills incorporated with fire company ground and aerial ladders. Placing and rigging aerial ladders, ladder derricks, ladder “A” frames, leaning ladders and emergency evacuations will be explored and practiced. This course is a great compliment to the RIT” team operations and Urban Search and Rescue Teams.

TOWER RESCUE OPERATIONS FOR THE 1ST RESPONDER (16 Hours)

Prerequisite: Rope Rescue Operations

The Tower Rescue Operations for the 1st Responder program was designed for the Emergency Service 1st Responders who may be called to handle a tower rescue emergency. This program will concentrate on the specific hazards associated with tower structures, fall protection, safe climbing systems and basic tower rescue techniques.

TOWER RESCUE TECHNICIAN FOR THE 1ST RESPONDER (16 Hours)

Prerequisite: Tower Rescue Operations for the 1st Responder

This program will take the Tower Rescue Operations level rescuer and provide more extensive climbing and rescue techniques for towers that may not have proper fall protection climbing systems and for towers that are of extreme height (greater than 100’). Rescue techniques for various situations dealing with ill or incapacitated climbers will be practiced in very intensive hands-on sessions.

TRENCH RESCUE AWARENESS (3 Hours)

Prerequisite: None

The Trench Rescue Awareness program is a 3-hour program, which contains classroom presentation, regarding the safety, size-up, hazard recognition, hazard control and first response level trench rescue considerations. The program will also detail how to form a Trench Rescue Response Team as well as looking at additional resource capabilities.

TRENCH RESCUE OPERATIONS (16 Hours)

Prerequisite: None

The Trench Rescue Operations program includes the Awareness level course and; trench collapse hazard recognition and control, soil types, federal regulations, preplanning, trench stabilization, proper shoring techniques utilizing trench shoring struts and wood lumber systems, patient assessment and treatment considerations and safe removal. Both classroom lesson plans and hands-on practices in real trenches will give the student a well-rounded understanding of the typical trench collapse.

TRENCH RESCUE TECHNICIAN (16 Hours)

Prerequisite: Trench Rescue Operations

This course involves advanced team development, equipment and organization strategies for a trench collapse response team. In addition, hands-on training with more complex scenarios, such as; intersecting “T” and “L” trenches, heavy equipment movement, air bags and supplement sheeting and shoring in deep trenches.

STRUCTURAL COLLAPSE RESCUE AWARENESS (4 Hours)

Prerequisite: None

All responders should consider this course. It was designed to help understand the hazards associated with structural collapse and what you need to know to handle an incident and what requirements you should consider when developing a Structural Collapse Response Team. NFPA standards and minimum requirements for various levels of response. Considerations for local, state and federal response teams will also be discussed.

EMERGENCY BUILDING SHORING, OPERATIONS (16 Hours)

Prerequisite: Structural Collapse Rescue Awareness, required and Trench

Rescue/Confined Space Rescue Operations are recommended This course is designed to give the students a basic understanding of the NFPA 1670 and USACE standards for Emergency Building Collapse Operations level shoring. This course will concentrate on basic assessment skills, size-up and hazard control at a scene of a building collapse for the Basic, Light (light frame) and Medium (heavy wall) level response. Students will explore various ways to conduct Emergency Building Shoring Operations. Techniques will include how to construct vertical, horizontal, window, door and basic raker shore systems, as well as understanding basic concepts for breaching walls and floors.

RESCUE TEAM BUILDING & DEVELOPMENT

Prerequisite: A minimum of the basic level rescue techniques required for the discipline(s) your team will be responsible for.

Our Rescue Team Building & Development program is designed to give your rescue team the working knowledge to develop and implement action plans, develop individual team member job functions, as well as, brain storming rescue situations. The team building can be geared to any rescue discipline. This unique program will give participants a real world understanding of technical rescue operations and how to work with minimum equipment and manpower while gaining optimum performance and safety. Group and individual evaluations will be conducted and a final report provided to your organization.

This course is designed so that upon completion, students will be able to identify and establish proper entry permit procedures, recognize and control hazards, ventilation, conduct atmospheric monitoring, personal protective equipment, non-entry rescue and comply with OSHA 1910.146 requirements for Entrant and Attendant.

CONFINED SPACE ENTRY SUPERVISOR (4 Hours)

Prerequisite: Confined Space Entry & Attendant

To meet the requirements of OSHA 1910.146 “Entry Supervisor”. Participants will become aware of specific requirements of the “Entry Supervisor”. Topics include; verification of permits, safe entry conditions, ventilation practices, atmospheric monitoring requirements, confined space communications, rescue response requirements, training verification, documentation and proper record keeping.

FALL PROTECTION AUTHORIZED WORKER (8 hours)

Prerequisite: None

This program is designed to provide employees who are required to work at heights with a basic working knowledge for the safe use of fall protection equipment and systems. This program is designed to comply with Federal OSHA regulations and associated ANSI Z359 standards for Fall Protection.

FALL PROTECTION COMPETENT PERSON (16 hours)

Prerequisite: None

This intensive course is designed to identify and comply with Federal OSHA regulations and ANSI Z359 standards on “Fall protection” as a “Competent Person”. The course will cover both general industry and construction fall protection requirements. Course content includes: regulations including ANSI Z359 fall protection standards, fall forces, equipment selection, care and use, anchorage, protective systems, suspension trauma, Competent Person requirements and developing rescue action plans. Classroom lesson plans and hands-on sessions will be conducted to give participants the working knowledge needed to prevent fall injuries.

TOWER AUTHORIZED AND COMPETENT CLIMBER / RESCUER (16 & 32 hours)

Prerequisite: None

The Tower Authorized and Competent Climber / Rescuer course(s) provide tower workers with the specific instruction and reference materials to meet current OSHA, NATE and DOD training requirements for fall protection, Authorized Climber/Rescuer and competent Climber/Rescuer. The 16 hour program covers the requirements for the Authorized Climber/Rescuer and the 32 hour course covers both the Authorized Climber/Rescuer and Competent Climber/Rescuer requirements according to the NATE training curricula for Tower Climber Fall Protection Training Standards. The Authorized Climber/Rescue and Competent Climber/Rescuer courses can be conducted in one 32 hour format or broken down into two 16 hour modules.

INTRODUCTION TO ROPE ACCESS FOR 1ST RESPONDERS (24 hours)

Prerequisite: Rope Rescue Technician

Introduction to Rope Access for 1st Responders, provides the Rope Rescue Technician with specific skills in vertical rope movement utilized by Rope Access Technicians. Course content includes; understanding of fall protection related to rope access, safe and redundant rope systems, advanced descending, ascending techniques, aid traverse, self rescue and pick-off rescue. This course is not designed to meet all the skill requirements for the SPRAT (Society of Professional Rope Access Technicians) Rope Access Technician course.

Custom designed Rope Access programs are available for specific industries, emergency responders, trained rope access workers, window washers, supervisors and rescue from fall arrest systems.

CERTIFICATION & EQUIPMENT

Each participant successfully completing a START Rescue Training program will receive a certificate of training. Industrial courses also receive required OSHA training documentation.
